Grand Targhee Ski Resort

General Information

This resort is a hidden gem located about an hour outside of Jackson Hole. Targhee receives over 500 inches of snow each year, which provides it with some of the best powder skiing in North America. The resort itself is small and intimate, perfect for families or groups that want a wonderfully scenic setting with all the mod cons.
The skiing at Grand Targhee can be absolutely euphoric. Most of the terrain falls into the intermediate category, but there are some short, fun steep runs on the outer edges for more advanced skiers. The secret about Targhee is that you don’t necessarily ski it for the terrain, it’s the snow you come here for. An adjoining peak, Peaked Mountain, offers an additional 1500 acres of snowcat skiing which is limited to no more than 30 people maximum on any given day. (You do the maths!) The resort has been planning to install a lift on this mountain, which would cut into that acreage for the snowcats, but never fear. There will still be plenty of that great “Snow from Heaven, Not Hoses” to play in.

Smallish ski area

Accommodation Information

Targhee has some nice lodging options located right in the base area. The resort is small, but families will be quite content for 3-4 days here. The Trap Bar offers a fun apres-ski atmosphere but all in all, the resort gets quiet at night. (There are a few exceptions to this when the locals get rowdy in the bar, but regardless, they’re a nice bunch!) The Targhee Lodge may be the best slopeside value in skiing but Teewinot Lodge is a more comfortable option with larger rooms and a pleasant fireside lounge. There are self-catering condos available in the Sioux Lodge for larger families or groups. SkiarUS is also proud to offer the option of a catered chalet in Teton Valley, Idaho for those wanting that experience. The chalet would be about 30 minutes from Grand Targhee and 1 hour from Jackson Hole.

Additional Information

Grand Targhee is an unspoiled destination. The snow is great, the people are nice, and the area is breathtaking. The close proximity to Jackson Hole is another added benefit but serious powder hounds might just be happy at Targhee regardless!

Jackson Hole Ski Resort

General Information

Jackson Hole has been fighting it’s own image as an experts only resort for years. Yes, the ski area does offer some of the best extreme terrain in the US, but intermediates and beginners don’t need to worry…there are plenty of runs and places for you to ski as well! The resort boasts one of the best ski schools for both kids and adults and they work diligently to make even the most nervous of intermediates feel comfortable on this challenging mountain. The snowfall is best during January and February, but temps can be a bit chilly. Early March is the best time at Jackson Hole, better overall temps with consistent snowfall.
This mountain, town, and area is a winter paradise. Great skiing, good snow, and tons to do make Jackson Hole one of the best skiing destinations in North America. It’s a definite on the AmeriCan Ski top 10 list!
