Snowboarding in Meribel
Everyone knows Meribel as one of the principal ski destinations for UK skiers, not everyone knows that it is fast becoming one of the top Snowboarding destinations for beginners and pros alike. Meribel offers everything a beginner could want with the Altiport being the first port of call for all those trying to hit the top of their beginner level, with leisurely greens and blues with quick chairlifts so you can get straight back on the mountain, as well as easy slopes down to the resort centre so you don’t need to worry about gondolas to get back to resort. For anyone after the powder the peaks of the Dent De Bugin, Roc de Tougne and Mont Du Vallon provide sublime powder fields.
Meribel Snow Parks
Meribel has 2 of the best Snow Parks in the 3 Valleys, the Moon Park and the newly renamed DC Park in Meribel Mottaret. The Moon Park located on the Roc De Tougne at the summit of the Plein De L’Homme chairlfit has been present for many a year and provides a large selection of jumps and rails for all levels of snow boarders with a draglift running through the park for those wanting to session the jumps all day.
The DC Park was introduced this year at a development of the previous Platieres Park in Meribel Mottaret. It has been heavily geared towards the more advanced rider with some huge kickers and more advanced boxes and rails, however there is enough to keep the beginner entertained. They have also been innovative in introducing the first European DC Live Park Camera, where riders are given a barcode to stick to their goggles and helmet and the cameras in the park film your best runs, check out http://www.dceurope-livepark.com/ for more information. They have held events at the renamed DC Area 43, including an invitational with the Scandinavian sponsored DC riders coming over to show everyone how the tricks should be done.
Meribel has your standard run of ski/snowboard schools with the likes of, ESF and New Generation, but where Meribel really hits off is with snowboard specialist schools as Cab 9 Snowboarding and some excellent tuition from Magic.
Snowboard Specialist Shops
With the majority of the shops geared towards skiing, it can be tough to find the right shops to go to, to get the right information on your snowboard gear, whilst you can just try one of the generic shops such as Espace Gliss or Intersport, you would be a lot wiser to try out one of the specialists. High recommendations from locals and holiday makers alike are Oxygene and Avalon.
